Ottawa, September 28, 2016 – Tara Luz Danse presents its new creation, Les bâtons, from the imagination of choreographer Anik Bouvrette. This work will welcome children and adults alike into a playful universe where dancers move and transform colourful sticks in unexpected ways. This piece is one of the first opportunities for the company to combine the work of three dancers and a musician on stage. Les bâtons will be presented on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Richcraft Theatre at the Shenkman Arts Centre.
When choreographer Anik Bouvrette discovered these colorful objects in schools, known as “boomwhackers”, she immediately knew she wanted to integrate them in her new work. When she began the creative process in the winter of 2015, she was deeply surprised and inspired by the many ways to use these objects in the movement and in the music.
For Anik Bouvrette, the object is a point of entry for the audience, making the work more accessible. “We presented excerpts of the work on a few occasions and I noticed that people have an immediate connection with this object. Its first use is a musical instrument, but the creative process led us to go much further with this object. With Les bâtons, I want to engage children and adults through imagination and reflection.”
